Weeping Heirloom is timing. I hope we've all cut into a tomato; I doubt we've all been able to mentally record the second it takes for a plump, ripe tomato to weep out some goodness. That tomato juice is extremely pure and delicious; catching it in a photograph is just as much so. It's probably a lot of fun to take a picture of me taking a picture because for shots like this, I contort, use both hands and keep any eye on many things.

Control the Timing

Setting up a shot for myself, a food blog or a customer is more than arranging the lighting and making a big fuss with wires and flash slave units. Digital cameras and the software used later can recover nearly as much light in natural settings as in studio settings at a sacrifice of fidelity (compared to film). So the trick, then, becomes not do you know how to take a picture, but instead, do you know when to take a picture.

In photographing food, I learned that there are many moments lost that idealize the act of preparing, cooking and eating food. It's tons of fun. While some picture shoots demand an immobile model, some of the best results come from being there at the right time.
